truvi commerce Now Allows Buyers to Select FedEx Retail Locations at Checkout or at Wine Club Signup
NAPA, CA — JANUARY 23, 2019
truvi commerce, which provides a full suite of products to enable wineries and wine retailers to launch and grow their DTC programs, announced today that its platform now allows for the selection of FedEx Hold-at-Locations at checkout and wine club signup.
Consumer expectations have shifted with respect to delivery. Aside from the cost of shipping, speed and convenience have become vitally important. According to a recent survey commissioned by FedEx, 50% of consumers surveyed have abandoned an online shopping cart because they didn’t like the delivery choices. Delivery has always been a sticking point for the wine industry, because wine requires an adult signature and that requirement interferes with the convenience factor. Many wineries suggest shipping to a place of employment; however, that option is not always practical. Failed delivery attempts are an all too familiar issue for the industry with estimates of failed first attempts ranging anywhere from 15 to 20%.
To combat this issue, truvi worked with FedEx to give wine buyers a more convenient option for delivery. When shopping online, customers are prompted with a message reminding them that a signature is required and suggesting that if they are unable to be home, they can select a convenient FedEx location for delivery. This option is available for club members as well. truvi’s software presents three options for the customer to choose from, with a map for convenience. Once the order arrives at the chosen FedEx location, the customer receives a notification. Their order is held behind the counter and retrieved when the customer arrives and shows proper identification.
FedEx has long allowed customers to redirect packages to FedEx stores through its FedEx Delivery Manager program, and many wineries take advantage of this feature today. However, that program requires buyers to wait until a package has shipped and then log in to redirect it. truvi’s solution, one of the first available for wineries to use at the point-of-purchase, eliminates that step and benefits truvi’s customers by allowing the consumer to select a FedEx location up front.
There are many benefits for winery customers:
- They are able to minimize returns and redirect fees. Because of the adult signature requirement, return rates are estimated at between 2% and 3% for the wine industry.
- They can avoid costly residential surcharges. We estimate that approximately 70% of wine orders are shipped to a residence.
- Their customers are happier. Many customers will avoid shopping online if they are not happy with the delivery options.
This new feature is available to customers who use truvi’s Shipment Manager module.
In other recent developments, truvi announced an integration with Pack’n Ship, VINGO, and service delivery platform ProNimbus on January 18th.
